An Englishman's Home is his Castle

That’s the theory, but the sad reality is often that these magnificent buildings become too expensive and stressful to run and many families are deciding to pass the responsibility down to the next generation after a finite period of time instead of after the passing of the patriarch. @thetimes yesterday has a column about how difficult it is to earn money from a beautiful stately pile and what lengths the owners are having to go to to maintain their homes. Oversley Castle on the edge of Warwickshire is arguably the first castle to be built in 100 years after Castle Drogo in Devon. It has none of the neediness of older properties but all of the historic location, stunning views and vast space coupled with sustainability at its core. Leading edge technologies such as solar tiles, wind turbines and batteries to provide power and woodcrete blocks that can achieve a U value of 0.16 offering high levels of insulation and thermal mass. To top off this Castle’s impressive environmental credentials over 2,000 trees have been planted. These are obviously CGIs but the project is due to be completed later this year.
